Why does my opener hum but not lift the door?
Usually a stripped internal gear inside the opener, though it’s worth checking whether the door itself is binding first. We’ll figure out which one it is before quoting anything.
Why does my door open partway and then reverse?
Most often the safety sensors near the floor are dirty, knocked out of alignment, or catching sunlight. It can also be a limit setting that needs adjusting.
How does a garage door opener actually work?
A motor on the rail drives a trolley connected to the door by an arm, pulled by a chain, a belt, or a screw drive depending on the model. A pair of floor-level safety sensors shine a beam across the opening and stop the door if anything breaks it, and a logic board reads your remote or wall button and tells the motor what to do. Most failures come down to one part in that chain. The whole unit rarely needs replacing.
